Google launches the much awaited Google phone and it's called G1. Google phone is pitched gainst Iphone , blackberry.. This was earlier known as "Android Phone" . lets have a deep look at it.This is a touch screen full qwerty smart phone.

This was launched this Tuesday. Like the iphone This will be available for T-mobile customers. though initially it will be available on lin US. Soon it will launched for T-mobile customers all over the world. In US you iwll get it as early as October 22(launch date) and in the U.K. in early November and throughout Europe in the first quarter of 2009. There is no info for other part of the world.

Thsi phone is built by HTC and supports the Google's open Android Linux Os. HTC is Taiwan based company that has some great products like HTC touch (the original so called iphone killer) This being a Linux and a open source os fewer virus. .

How much it costs? JUST $179.
Thats 20$ less than iphone. Other that that you have to pay a contract fee like the iphone

This phone Supports all the latest technology 3G, EDGE and Wi-Fi and is built in with all the Google applications i will soon present a full specs of the phone till then it's all it.

This may not be as revolutionary as Iphone buts it sure has more features than Iphone

Multiple searches box in Google chrome

To get multiple search engines in chrome with out clicking a single button just read on. what would you do if want to search wikipedia but your default search box is Google in Firefox or IE. Just click on the search icon / change search box button and select wikipedia.

Ie is better it will revert back to your default search box next time you open the browser but Firefox makes this as your default search box. in chrome you have to do the same expect for This simple trick .

Just click on the wrench icon . Now select "options" .

Under "basics " tab you will find "default search". Click on manage . Now select any other search engine that you want . Make this search engine as your default search engine. Click ok and job done.

Now open a new tab. In the special chrome page you will see the previous default search engine below "search history" box..

You can use the default search from the address bar and any other search engines by just opening a tab. Ok here you have a click a button but it's very unlikely that you will search in the same tab in any of your browser

You can have any no of search box by repeating the process.

Like any browser Chrome has some hidden "about" pages. Lets look at them. . the provide a lot of info on what the browser has been doing . Some are just for fun to show their funny side.

1. about:version - Google Chrome shows the version number of the browser, WebKit and V8 ( V8 is Chrome's JavaScript engine).

3. about:cache - This page will display the list of all the web pages cached by Google Chrome.

4. about:memory - This pages measures memory usage in a multi-process browse i.e compares the memory used by all the active browsers

5. about:dns - Google Chrome prefetches the DNS records. Thsi helps it to load pages faster . Prefetching is done only for 10 frequently visited hostnames. Thsi page displays them

6. about:stats - Thsi page displays a internal counters and timers. thsi page a s specail sub-title "Shhh! This page is secret!".. why such a title go ask google

7. about:network - dont exactly know what this page doest but it seams to besome thinf to do with I/O tracking

8. about:hang - If you type this on a active page it will cause the web page to hang the process The other tabs will continue to work fine but this will just vanish(something like clear screen) .The tab remains as it is but will no longer show any thing

9. about:crash - This displays the page the is visible when an tab crashes. Actually this will cause the tab to crash. crash the active tab. Google Chrome displays the image of a "sad tab" with the following text below it "Something went wrong while displaying this webpage. To continue, press Reload or go to another page".

10. about:internets - This is the best page. It is basically one of the windows screen saver , Pipe 3D or 3D pipe Google Chrome displays 3D Pipes screensaver from Windows

Blogger feed problem in Google chrome

Google chrome unable to handle blogger feed pages. Just check out these screen shots. First one is the RSS feed page of my Blog. The second one is the atom feed of my blog. For those of you dont know this is a blogger blog and Blogger is a Google product.
My point is why does not it support rss/atom feeds of blogger. i checkout the feeds provided by feedburner and they were perfect.. This just means that they forgot to test blogger feed pages during testing or they have decided to leave the ball in the blogger's court and let it handle the problem. Anyways this is nothing to worry about since it will be a year or so before we can really count Chrome as a player in the field of browser

Bugs in Google chrome

These is one minor bugs or incomplete/missing feature in Google chrome.In The following screen shot one of the icon has a problem. May be the icon no longer exist on the server. Idid a right click to select the option "View image " just to sure that the icon no longer exists and to my surprise i did not find any such option. .Just see the screenshots below. I just found "open image in new tab". Thats an ok alternative for proper images i.e photos but not for icons . Hope they iron it out soon.

I am currently testing chrome so you can hope more reviews/ bugs on chrome soon

Google Chrome

A good first browser. This is not revolutionary(expect for looks) but a excellent start by google. In terms of looks it's Firefox on steroids. in terms of features it has a long way to go.

On the up side it looks great. The best thing is that the address bar acts as search bar. it has a stealth mode that prevents what you visited from being stored/recorded. It has a task manager too.No menu bar instead 2 icons on status bar. It has a auto hide status bar. "Page cannot be displayed" has a link to google cache and also displas the correct error with the page.The start up page just shows the bookmarks and commonly visited pages and recently closed tabs.

On the downside the status bar just says connecting and does not shows the progress.

Great browser from Google with the coming versions it will be excellent. Although i must admit it cant compete with Firefox on features. Even in reach/size i will take lot of marketing effort to reach even 50% of Microsoft. just look at Google backed Firefox has just 19% of the market share despite google paying users who promote it.And the 19 % is because of it's features and not because of google.

I am sure with in a year it will be the third most used windows browser and second on apple

Create Fake pages

I will give some lessons to budding web designers . This will tell you how to create copy of a pages. Here is how you create one. Let me show how you do for Google.com.

Open Google in a new tab or Click Here .
Now select "View" from menubar
Then select "Source"(IE) or "Page Source"(firefox).
This will show you raw html of the site in a notepad in case of IE. In firefox this will be visible in firefox.
Now You need To save this page.
Just select "Save page as " . Change save type as to "All Files". and save it as XYZ.html(anyname.html)
Now just double click on the html it will open in your browser. You will be get the exact replica of the google page

Only problem is the images are not visible. This is because most sites uses relative path. Just visit the actual page and save all images. Now upload it anywhere on the web. Just get the links of the images. In many cases even the css file(for how sites appear) are also relatve. You need to download them too (just type http:/ /sitename.com/name of file.css in the browser and the fill will be downloaded)
Go to the html file and Right click on it and select "OPEN WITH" notepad. Now If you know html job's done in a minute else it will have to use trial and error method.
Relative Path is one thing like this "/images/google.gif" you need to give the complete path names where ever possible like "www.google.com/images/google.gif". In case of images you may even replace these with your links.
Tip for those who dont know html : Html consists of tages image is represented as follows "< img. src="actual image link" /> Click here for Html Tutorials
Similarly change all relative path to actual path and the job done.
If you are a hacker or Pro Html programmer then you all ready know about this. But if are newbie to either hacking or html then this is a good exercises. Html programers use this frequently . If they like the design of the site they copy it to their sites . But if use this with a wrong intent or create a look alike of the site that will confuse the users into thinking that it's the orginal site you will land behind bar then dont say didn't warn you.

Every one should have a good Anti -virus. Let me rate the top 3 antivirus for you from my experience and the extensive study i did online.

First on the list is Kaspersky . This is the best Antivirus. It has a virus detection rate of 95%+. It detects a virus in less than 2 second.The best part is it that all this at just 10% of your RAM. The updates are Hourly. Only problem is it doesn't has a Registry protection.Other than that it gives you complete protection. It gives you IM, Mail, SPAM, Spyware protection. It gives you the option of triple protection (Fire/AV/anti spy) or just Anti virus. Zone alarm(best firewall) it self makes use of a tweaked version of kaspersky as a part of their complete protection suite. AOL'S Active Virus Shield is based on the Kaspersky antivirus engine This is enough to convince you.

Further list is just for those who what to know more.If you just want a Anti virus then you can download kaspersky and leave this site.

Next on the list is Bit defender.This is actually better than Kaspersky but sucks up your RAM like any thing up to 50%.What the use of such a Anti- Virus . if you have faster RAM (1GB+)then go for it. It has a virus detection rate of 95%+. It detects a virus in 0-4 seconds. It gives you complete protection like Kaspersky with registry protection too. It best feature is detection of new malwares. It has the highest new malware detection rate among the Antivirus available.Updates are hourly.

Next is Mcafee.This is quiet good if you have AV with firewall and Anti Spam. Light on your RAM. Least false detection rate. Only problem is once the protection period is over it wont give you any updates.Updates are daily.

Among free ones Avast is the best. It gives complete protection but detection rate is not high.

I was initially using Norton.Later i started using Mcafee since my broadband connection provider gave it for free. Once the period got over i didn't get any updates I didn't want to pay to switch to a newer version and start getting updates. So switched to Avast. Then i tried Trent micro again given free with by provider(they changed from mcafee to trend due to some contract issue). Finally i decided to get a paid one. That's when i did a extensive research and came up with this result.I am switching to Kaspersky as it's the fastest.

If you are computer Geek. You can even try Nod32.Try it if and only if you are geek.

This is the story of how i started this website. Once i read in newspaper about a Indian girl a who was living in New zealand . She was earning 1000$ a month that too while studying all that she did was create a blog and added a sign up form. This was a college sign up form basically a few links to sign up forms of colleges. If someone signed up from her site she got paid.

Thsi was more than enough for me. I knew basics on web design. So after a month or so i decided to dive in to this money pool . I initially started a website from freewebs but soon realised they show their own ads. Thus i created this blog on dec 06 "orkuttricks.blogspot.com"

I actually began blogging in Feb 07. I was initially all about Orkut.com .Later i added about joga.com . It is a orkut site with a football touch created for Nike. Later i began adding article on google talk . This was till june 07 . Later i stopped blogging till august.

In September i decided to blog about all google products and thus began blogging on Igoogle and Gmail . This continued till dec 07. In the new year i got busy with other tasks so almost stopped blogging with occasional postings.

In April i bought a domain "googleopedia.com" with the idea that i will build a proper site. I built a site in the next 2 months but not for me but for my college.In April i was contacted by my college to build a site for our college fest. So for the next 2 months i became busy with building the site and a toolbar and setting up a blog and a forum using free tools and thus topped blogging temporarily.

Later in July i transformed this blog into "Googleopedia.com"

"Orkut Tricks" was hugely popular but since i didn't regularly blog and then changed the url it went down. Till recently i was busy moving my blog to the new name .Now that is over i will start active blogging again.

this is not the only blog that i have have. In Feb 08 I started viruswrtiting.blogspot.com .This was started so that i could move all the offensive content into a separate blog and make Orkut Tricks clean.This remained largely dormant only recently have i began blogging actively into this blog.

In addition to this i started a separate blog called Techbangalore in Jan 08 as my friend too wanted to join in. This was just a copy of articles from the web. Very few visitors few pages visible in Google I thought it was a utter failure and left it . In july cane to know It had a page rank of 3. I was shocked how come such a Non-SEO blog have PR of 3. I took back the control from my friend as he too had stopped blogging . I changed the URL to tech.googleopedia.com and added a few posts.

In addition to this i have helped several blogger in setting up a site, creating a custom template , creating widgets and earning money from them.

Now atleast for a another year i will be actively blogging trying to reach the pinacle of success.

Gmail introduces gmail lab

Gmail has introduced something called as gmail lab. Most new Google products are first released at Google labs(labs.google.com). these are in their beta version. once it fells it's working fine it's either launched or incorporated into one of theirexisting products.

Gmail to has launched something similar expect this is only concerned to Gmail. This means that their programmer can write any feature and trow it up for public. you can try them out and give your suggestions. if they feel it's a hit it may be launched for everyone.

The idea behind Labs is that any engineer can go to lunch, come up with a cool idea, code it up, and ship it as a Labs feature. To tens of millions of users. No design reviews, no product analysis, and to be honest, not that much testing

All this will actually be in beta so it means they may crash anytime or cause any serious problem. Currently it has 13 offerings and soon will have a lot more.

Googel changes it's favicon

was just wisting Google when i saw their favicon has changed. so did some research to find the reason. You too might have noticed that Google has a new favicon. . a favicon is a small icon you see in your browser next to the URL or in your bookmarks list.

It seams they wanted to develop a set of icons that would scale better to some new platforms like the iPhone and other mobile devices

Thats' not it i found a whole set of icons that has recently developed for it's use.

Google has been developing a new algorithm for indexing textual content in Flash files. They have been working with Flash indexing algorithm . Earlier it was not possible to index flash files content.

The answer is yes it still exists only that the links is nolong visible anywere. you can checkout the demography at http://www.orkut.co.in/MembersAll.aspxAs you can see at this page brazil is still leading at second pace it's USA and close behind is India.
Although the difference between India and USA is less than 1% but the Brazil is still at no 1 with a gap of 30%.

In age group people between 18-25 are the max users of this site as with most social networking site. Most visit orkut to make friends. So if you thought that demography was removed then you were wrong.

Yes Google now translates in 10 more languages.. This brings the total to 23 languages. The newly added languages are Bulgarian, Croatian, Czech, Danish, Finnish, Hindi, Norwegian, Polish, Romanian and Swedish..

Of this i feel Hindi is probably the toughest to translate as the script is completely different.. So now you can use Google to translate all these languages. This is i think now the biggest translate service. Most of these were in lab and after months of testing were released. These translation have not been done by Google but by people like you and me . You too can participate Google in your language program..

i have tried the hindi translation service as a part of the lab offering and it was quiet fine not good though. This seams to be a bit better.I cannot comment on any other languages.

Imagine if you could see what others click. That's not all imagine if i tell you can see which was the first pic they clicked to the last in correct order and also the camera manufacturer. That too if i say you can get all this info using just Google image search. I know most of you will either laugh or think it's impossible.

No this is fully true. If you have a camera then you will know that the photos are numbered in proper order from the first pic to the last. S when you upload it online it stil has the same name something like xxx001.jpg. Now when the pic gets cached by google you can search .

Google indexes pasword protected pages

Sometime back Google had brought a company called Transformic inc. which worked on indexing password protected pages..They have been working with Google engineers in unifing their development with google. And google can now index password protected pages.

It works something like this when it finds forms < form > it seams it performs a.small number of queries using the form. For text boxes, it automatically choose words from the site and for select menus, check boxes, and radio buttons it chooses from the values of the HTML.

Does this spell doom? Not actually. This is a great thing . There are a lot of forum that have great content but are password protected hence we never get those sites in our search result. now with this we will be able to visit those sites . we still may not be able to read the content without actually logging in but get some ideausing cache pages

Communication between 2 computers takes place via a software. If the software connects directly to the port of the receiver's comp, you can get the receiver's IP. This is the what p2p is all about, direct transfer of data from computer to computer. But if the communication is via a server i.e data is sent to a server then to recipient then there is no direct connection.In this case you cant hack the victim but get details of the server.

This methods is easy.Just start chatting with some one via Yahoo messenger. Now send him a big file ( size depends on the avg speed of net in your country).

Now the communication is direct. And you are ready to go.

Go to dos(START>>>RUN>>>Type CMD).
Here Type "netstat -n" .The pic given below shows netstat of my comp.I was not chatting when i took this pic and this pic is modified(local address)

Local address is your IP & foreign is your recipients. State represents whether the connection was established or not.

Now send him the file and type "netstat -n 3". Now check the output.

Assume the output is something like this
TCP 127.0.0.10:5101 127.0.0.11:1246 ESTABLISHED
5101 is the port where connection is established

Now just type nbtstat -A IP_of_ the_attacker(127.0.0.11)
You will get a out put some thing like this

Now you got a lot of detail this should be sufficient for you to access his comp.

Using nbtstat- part I

Just go to dos(start>>run>>cmd) . In dos just type "nbtstat -a IP "

Just enter your IP as a trial.In reality you need to enter Remote machine's IP. You will get a out put some thing like this

nbtstat is a dos tool that reveals who is online on a remote comp. This gives details of the person whose ip you have entered.

If you get "Host Not found" that means the port 139 is closed or the IP address doesn't exists. Unix/LINUX provides excellent support for this but not windows. In windows you can prioritize all the foreground process. Here's how. Use this registry hack to perform job control in windows.Just open Regedit(START>>RUN>>Type REGEDIT)

Navigate to:

Set the DWORD Win32PrioritySeparation to any of the following values.

3 (the default): Foreground and background tasks have equal priority.

0 (not recommended): Foreground tasks run in real-time.

A .reg file is used to create a entry in to the registry. If you don't know anything on the registry visit the encyclopedia or registry section.

This is how a registry file looks like (the .reg's syntax)

RegistryEditorVersion is the version of the registry editor. if you are using windows xp or windows 2000 it should be "Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00". For Windows 98 and NT4.0 systems REGEDIT4 is the version entry in the header of the .reg file .

The blank line is a must. The Blank line informs the Registry the start of a new Registry path. Before every new path you must add a blank line.

RegistryPath is the path to the location of the particular key or sub-key in the Registry . The enclosed in square brackets is a must and each sub-key level has to be separated by a backslash just like a normal file path or a url.

For example:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\viruswriting]

If the subkey does not exist, it will be created. Multiple entries will each start with their own paths separated by blank lines.

The ”DataItemName1”=“DataType1:DataValue1” specfies the values of the key (or sub-key).DataItemName is the specified name of the data.Each key may have more than one name. This is enclosed in quotation marks.
Next is the the data type (DWORD or hexadecimal) , followed by the actual data. Incase of the
data beging of the String type, then no data type is specified. The DataType and DataValue are separated by colons. Quote("") is not necessary for the type:value if they are not string.

Google has a lot of cool feature like the one that allows you to search titile. it's called intitle: . This allows one to search for a certain word in the title.

If you include [intitle:] in your query, Google will restrict the results to documents containing that word in the < title > < /titile > tag. For instance, [intitle:orkut tricks] will return word "orkut" in their title and mention the word "tricks" anywhere in the document (url or no).

This means there can be there can be no space between the "intitle:" and the following word.

If you want to search for more than one keyword use "allinurl" If you start a query with [allintitle:] Google will search only those pages with all of the query words with in the < title > tag. Hacking means means breaking into something(account or something like that) and accessing their stuffs. I will show you how to access the stuffs of any website easily. This info is for beginner who are interested in Hacking. In case you are a pro then this is of no use to you.

Before i begin you need to know some basics. You are a client( i mean your comp) and the website you want to visit is the server(i again mean the comp where the website is located). The website has a software called server software that will process your quire and you will be able to see a site. When you type www.***. com. Your browser will determine to which IP should it send this data based on the address you type. Now at the server side the server software will read the URL and display a page or do some specific task.

Any website is actually a folder. A folder may have sub folders. Generally a file named default.html or home.html or some thing like that(the default page) is present for every website. If you simply enter www.*** .com then you it will(server software) display "Default.html" or the default page. but if you type www.*** .com/page1.html then it will display the html file "page1". Such a file is present for every folder but if you type www.*** .com/blog/123.html then this page 123.html is shown.

If the url of the website is www.*** .com/image/pic.gif then you are actually accessing "pic.gif file" in the "image folder" of the server. Now by replacing pic.gif to ant other stuff you will be able to access access all other images. Just remember enter the name based on site like if the site is on cars dont enter bank.gif instead try car related stuffs.Another hint people generally use pic1 or image1 as names if they dont get a appropriate name.Just stick to trial and error and you will surely be successful.

Similarly you can access many such folders all that you need to do is explore the site you are planning to hack. You will get a lot of folders and in turn lot of files.

Keylogger is not actually a hacking tool. It was designed to determine sources of errors in computer systems but off late it has been used more for hacking. Keylogger records all that happened on your comp. It records your every keystroke. The biggest problem is this software is freely availaible.

But no one nowadays uses them to determine errors. They are used to see what you are doing. Several companies and parents use this tool to keep track of their employees & kids respectively. By analysing your keystrokes then know when & where on the web you have been or what have you been doing.

This is not so dangerous isnt it? No you are wrong It records all your Keystrokes even your usernames and passwords. Although any one seeing the recorded data(log) cannot make out to which site does it belong but if you have logged in to a chat client then it's easy to make it out. Since after the id and password your conversation will be be stored. This not only gives him your Yahoo Msngr Or Gtalk id but also of Yahoo mail and Gmail and all other related services like flicker, Orkut etc.This too is not so serious. What if you make a online purchase he even gets to know of your Credit Card or SSN no. This is catastrophic .

This is what most spyware are. They are one of the most used softwares by hackers. So when it is so dangerous why is it free. It's like some medicine when when given to a patient cures him but when consumed by a normal person can kill him.

Just read along if you wish to hack any email that asks you the security question in case you forgot the password. This makes use of a bug present in most email(expect a few like earthlymail and electronicmail others related) .There are several sites that claim to give you password by just sending an email but in that you also need to give your password.This is a fake thing you finally end up getting your id hacked.

This is a genuine method and is only for educational purpose. If you hack you are at your own.We will trick the server in thinking that the details(DOB/Securtity question & answer) you gave are true. Please read the enire post before you begin as you need to done somethings before you start composing one.One important thing If you are hacking a Yahoo account compose/send mail from a Yahoo account only. If you dont have one then create it and then send.

Just compose a mail called FORGOT PASSWORD(all in caps)
Now you need to send this mail to ret_pass@**** .com(replace *** with Live/ Hotmail/MSN) OR retrieve_pass@**** .com(replace **** with Aol/AIM/Yahoo)
In the subject field type the following

id:

Here is the trick we need to convince the server that the details that you give are the details of that id

secque: $give your security question$ (no ? after the question)
In case it has a space for eg: "What is your pet" give it as what%20is%20your%pet i.e replace any space by %20)

For Yahoo it's security#*&
secans: $give your security answer$ (Again here also if any space then replace the space by %20 For eg: if your answer is "Google Helper" give it as google%20helper)

For Yahoo/MSN it's security##* & for Aol/Aim it's secan
sdob: %$dob of your id$% No % needed for Yahoo

You may also be needed to give your Pincode as spin .
Once you send the mail the server will will not know what to do. The securtiy details of the id from which you sent mail are fully correct but id mentioned is something else. So instead of giving your password it gives password of the id metioned.

You should either get the password in 10-30 min or an error will be generated. I think by now you might have understood why i asked to send for the same mail provider.If not then the reason is how will MSN know dwtails of your AOL mail.
And one more imprtant thing this method has a 95% success rate if you dont get up from your dream. This means that this post is all Bogus. This is a virus code of clone virus. This is the original post virus in c. This virus clones itself. You can convert it into java by making small changes that any java programmer can make out.

Before you use this virus you need to compile . Just select the complie option in your c compiler. DONT RUN IT OR SELECT THE RUN OPTION, I repeat dont run it. Now exit the compiler . Find the size of the .exe file generated in bytes. Replace the value of "X" with is value(in bytes).
Now recompile it and exit.

What this virus does is it makes all the files in the current directory a virus. You need to find out the header files for yourself as this only for educational purpose . Just remember to run this virus inside a new folder that contains no important exe and normal files . This virus will make them too as virus.

Google China seems to have brought 60% stake in Tianya. It is a Chinese social portal .It is one of the top 100 visited chinese site. Tianya offers several products which includes classifieds, photo hosting, blogs, news, sports and others. Actually Tianya is a forum service provider, other features are not so successful.

Google stated its intention to acquire or invest in 5 Chinese internet companies . The investment in Tianya.cn is one such investments. It is believed the Google has brought 58.1 percent share anlthought there is no official confirmation. This is the biggest aquisation by Google in China.

Google has launched 2 new sites in Chinese with the help of Tianya . The 2 sites are Laiba and Wenda. Strictly speaking the sites are just hosted on Google's server and google is providing tech support. They are Tianya sites. But there are rumours that Google has taken controlling stake in Tianya.

Laiba is a social networking site. It stands for "come here".This includes several features like search, hot topics, community forum etc. You can search for anyone based on their age, location ,sex. It has one more coll feature you can rank a person . These are visible on homepage. This seems to be like Orkut with url having UID=1234567890123456789 (19-digit no) and community having cmm. All new Orkut

What a great topic For My 666Th post .The all new Orkut is finally here. Orkut has been talking about it in their blog. They had been even carrying a pic below the Profile menu box to tell users about the change.

Help page has been already changed for everybody

But now it has been Finally launched. Some users have informed me about this change. Their Orkut has gone white. With-in a Weeks all of us will go white, i mean Orkut will go white. Although i like the white colour I hate the icons. They claim it look a little more sleek and modern to me it seems to be the worst possible icons that could ever exist. What has happened to Google.

Why did it turn white? Coz this is the only only Google service that's in blue. There are others that are black or blue but they have been acquired by Google and not developed by it. Some empty parts of is still blue.

First of all there is a bar at the top and at the bottom. The top bar contains the orkut logo ans 4 links "Home" "Scrapbook" "Community" "Friends". The "Messages " and "what's new" have been removed. At the Other corner you have "Log out" and a search box.

At the bottom Bar You have "About Us" "What's new" "Help" among others. On the either ends you have logo's Orkut logo at left and Google logo at right.

The "messages" is below the Feed's button.

Google/Orkut in trouble

Google's landed in some hot water over their social network, Orkut which allows users to interact online, similar to the likes of MySpace and Facebook. The problems arose when Google tried running ads on the site and critics recorded them coming up next to pictures of abused children and animals.While many Americans have never heard of Orkut before, the website has become a huge hit overseas registering more than 32 billion page views in September 07.

Surprisingly, over half of these page views come from Brazil, where the website has become a surprise hit amongst citizens.Noticing internet use was exploding in Latin America, Thiago Tavares Nunes de Oliveira, a 28-year-old Brazilian law professor, setup a nonprofit website called SaferNet which allows users to report human rights violations via their website. Mr. Tavares claimed within weeks the site started receiving hundreds of complaints, many about Orkut.

It is around this time that Google's legal troubles with Orkut began.Mr. Tavares says he then tried contacting Google to report the problem, but never heard back from his many meeting requests. In early 2006, he gave a Google press officer a CD containing 220 pages of evidence of alleged Orkut crimes, but nothing resulted from his actions.Legal action has since been ramped up to the point where the head of Google Brazilian operations is facing criminal contempt charges for refusing to turn Orkut users' data over to police.

Next month, there is also a hearing that could see Google fined $100,000 per day, or the forced shutdown of its Brazil office. In August this year, Google responded to these legal threats by pulling all advertising from Orkut.I'm sure scandals like this will be closely monitored by other social networks, as it threatens the business model many of these websites are founded on. If this model is under threat, it may force other social networks to rethink their monetization strategy.

I was checking my visitors at Google Analytical in "Map Overlay". Map overlay is a feature that lets me know how many visitors I had per country on a map. If you click on a particular country on the map it takes you to that country and it show the visitor of that country ,city wise (see the pic below).

I had seen the map of India at Google analytical several times but didn't pay any notice to it. Today when i was looking at it i suddenly found out that India -Pak border was not properly displayed. Even India-china border was not proper. It shows POK as part of Pakistan this could be allowed as it's administered by PAK. Even the Aksai Chin plateau area is not properly displayed.These are disputed areas that either countries claim it to be theirs. This map shows these regions as PAK's and China's respectively. SO does it means that Google takes Pak's and China's side. No Google is far better than.

Before we head into reading you need to know a bit of facts

The disputed territory POK is claimed by both India and Pakistan, but controlled by Pakistan.

I decided to do some research as to what did other sites show. I decided to visit only those sites that specialise in this field i.e either encyclopedia or map sites.

I visited

maps.yahoo.com

mappoint.msn.com

mapquest.com

wikimapia.org

I first headed over to Maps.google.com Owned by Google.This showed the correct map. The disputed regions were shown in dotted lines and that's fair enough. Another area which China claimed i.e Arunacjal pradesh(just next to butan) is shown in dotted lines although it's now Indian state. To tell you the truth google powered maps( i dont mean alalytical like sites) were the only site that site that showed correct map . So thumbs Up for Google Maps

Next i went to Yahoo Maps. They had launched several new features.This made the site load too slow. It took me almost 2-3 min to zoom into that level.But finally i got it. Here the story was quiet different. Aksai Chin plateau area was shown separately. POK was shown as Pakistani. They have shown the Aksai Chin plateau as a separate country i.e it's represent by the same line as that of a country. So yahoo maps sucks

Next stop was Microsoft's virtual earth aka Msn map.This was bit better than Yahoo. This showed POK as pak region but the plaetue is shown as a disputed region. It's shown with dotted line unlike yahoo.They even showed Arunachal pradesh also in dotted lines although it's an Indian state.

I also tryied out AOL'S mapquest. This site turned out to be much like Microsoft . There was only one change the border b/w POK and India was shown in dotted line.

At Wikipedia's map(wikimapia) everything perfectly fine as it was powered by Google. This was much much of a physical map but showed everything correctly.

Just reminder that Google Analytical only gives us details regarding our site and not about the worlds. It has to show these region as part of one country or other or else it would lead in to problem. If there are visitors from these region what would Google do. Several such disputed regions exist in the world.It has to cant show them separately as it's of no use or importance to a webmaster. It only that we Indians have been unlucky and these regions have been excluded from India.

But sites like Yahoo, Msn and others should show the right map.

Your ads will run in an a channel, broad category such as Business,Consumer Electronics etc or a Network, a group of related FeedBurner publishers, organized by a fellow publisher around topics like Music, Venture Capital or Politics.

This would cost you a minimum of 25$ per week.Why is this so costly?? Be cause if a fellow succribes your feed he will be reading your sites contect every time you update it. Unless he unsuccribes it you have a loyal visitor who would visit your site each tome you update it.

So how do the ads look

It also gives you a detaild reprot just like adwords. To see this you need to go to the “Analyze” tab for your feed, and look for your ad under “Headline Animator Stats” in the left column.
Click-through rates are listed with other ad performance stats on the Analyze tab.

It also allows you automatically renew your account every week so that you don't have to manually select every week.

Google Apps is a service from Google for using custom domain names with several Google products. It features several known Web applications, including Gmail, Google Calendar, Talk, Page Creator, and Docs & Spreadsheets.

It has added a more user-friendly control panel interface for administrators. Thare is also a Mail migration tools for administrators using Premier and Education Editions.

Goohle recently introduced a new report in the AdWords Report Center. The Search Query Performance report .This shows for what qurie was you add shown and clicked.

It has 4 important fields

Search query- This shows what the user searched for.
Search query type - This tells type of query as in weather it was a exacyly related to your site or broadly or other. It shows them as "BROAD", "EXACT", "PHRASE".
Impressions - this tells you how may times your ads was shown.
Clicks - howmany people clicked on those ads.

Lets' look at Search query type in detail
Say you have a site related to Gmail if some one types "Mail" your ads are visible but that's not the your offering .Now if some one types "Gmail" and your ads are visible then it's a exact match.

This tells you for what keyword you got the maximum click. Say you have been bidding on "Gmail" but you got a max visitors for "Filters" or "Contacts" and very less for "Gmail" you can stop bidding for "gmail" and start bidding for "Filters".

Log in to your AdWords account
Click the 'Reports' tab at the top of the page.
Click 'Create Report.'
Select 'Search Query Performance' as your Report Type

You need to select the add (text ads, image ads, video ads, etc.) for which you want this report.

Yes you can view stock prices on Google Calender.This will give you the closing price of your stock each day.

Each stock quote is taken as a event .Every day the event is updated to show the latest price of the stock.

To be able to do this from your home Calendar screen,

Type your desired ticker symbol into the search field at the top (for google it's GOOG)

Click "Search Public Calendars."

Look for a result that says "Google Finance Calendar for [company name]"

Click "Add to Calendar."

Click "Back to Calendar" on the top left of the same page.

Now you will be able to see the latest closing price of the stock

Google Pranks/April Fool

Google is not only famous for it's search or ads it ahs also been famous for one more stuff. It's the Fool's day Pranks. It is known to play prank it's user on April 1. Sice 2000 they have been doing this expect 2001 and 2003. Some of them really look convincing.

2000: Google MentalPlex

In the year 2000 Google announced a new search technology called "MentalPlex" . It supposedly read the user's mind to determine what the user wanted to search for, thus eliminating the step of actually typing in the search query. All that the user had to do was remove his Hat and Glasses and stare at the above image. It said that it worked for all languages.

There was even a elaborate FAQ page. It even gave some troubleshooting tips

Problem: MentalPlex keeps taking me to sites featuring rubber toys, nipples and diapering.
Answer: Your infant is too close to the monitor. If you have no children, you may want to consider counseling.

Problem: I am unable to visualize clicking and have to use my finger to activate the mouse.
Answer: Click visualization takes practice. Try pushing the mouse button with your eyebrow, then gradually increase the distance between your eye and the mouse.

Google claimed reveals the technology behind its Search System . They called it PigeonRank actual name of their technology was Page Rank.

They said Larry Page and Sergey Brin,the Google founders developed this technology at Satndford university based on breakthrough work of B. F. Skinner(probably a scientist). Google touts the benefits of this cost-effective and efficient means of ranking pages and reassures readers that there is no animal cruelty involved in the process.

The article makes many humorous references and puns based on computer terminology and how Google PageRank really works.They even mentioned that that the birds were kept in good condition and where fed the best food. They even offered newsletter for readers to know more on their technology " Google Friends newsletter. "

2004: Google Lunar/Copernicus Center

Google claims to give Jobs to 35 engineers at their Googlunaplex. It is GooglePlex in Moon i.e you work at Google office located at moon. It claimed to contain 27,000 low cost web servers, 2 massage therapists and a sushi chef formerly employed by the pop group Hanson.

It was called G-CHEESE (Google Copernicus Hosting Environment and Experiment in Search Engineering) Google's initial base, a spherical structure containing living quarters and a small data center, will take two and a half years to construct. first G.C.H.E.E.S.E ball has been christened the Googlunaplex.

Google also said that they would release version 10.0 of an operating system that has been optimized for the demands of extra-terrestrial computation. Known as Luna/X, the new command architecture i was said to be impervious to radiation, low gravity, absolute zero temperatures and airless environments.

Those interested had to contact Google at lunarjobs@google.com. They had to be at least 18 years of age by April 1, 2007 and have proof of earth residency.

2005: Google Gulp

Google Gulp, a fictitious drink, was announced by Google in 2005. They claimed that this was develiped by one of their employee VP of operations Urs Hoelzle . He used to collect floral plants from tropical rain forest in his 20% time. They said that the Flowers contained nothing special – bag of future steroids, muscle relaxants, long-shot cancer drugs. But one day the flowers contained a special chemical.That led to creation of this juice/drink.

According to the company, this beverage would optimize one's use of the Google search engine by increasing the drinker's intelligence. It was claimed this boost was achieved through real-time analysis of the user's DNA and carefully tailored adjustments to neurotransmitters in the brain (a patented technology termed Auto-Drink).

The drink was said to come in "4 great flavors": Glutamate Grape (glutamic acid), Sugar-Free Radical (free radicals), Beta Carroty (beta carotene), and Sero-Tonic Water (serotonin).

This hoax was likely intended as a parody of Google's invite-only email service called Gmail. Although ostensibly free, the company claimed the beverage could only be obtained by returning the cap of a Google Gulp bottle to a local grocery store: a causal loop. In the Google Gulp FAQ, Google replies to the observation "I mean, isn't this whole invite-only thing kind of bogus?" by saying "Dude, it's like you've never even heard of viral marketing."

2006: Google Romance

On April Fool's Day 2006, Google Romance was announced on the main Google search page with the introduction, "Dating is a search problem. Solve it with Google Romance." It pretends to offer a "Soulmate Search" to send users on a "Contextual Date". A parody of online dating, it amusingly had a link for "those who generally favor the 'throw enough stuff at the wall' approach to online dating" to Post multiple profiles with a bulk upload file, you sleaze in addition to Post your Google Romance profile. Clicking on either of these gave an error page, which explained that it was an April Fool's joke and included links to previous April Fool's Jokes for nostalgia.

Gmail Paper

At about 10:00 PM Pacific time (where Google has its headquarters) the day before April 1, 2007, Google changed the login page for Gmail to announce a new service called Gmail Paper. The service offered to allow users of Google's free webmail service to add e-mails to a "Paper Archive," which Google would print (on "96% post-consumer organic soybean sputum") and mail via traditional post. The service would be free, supported by bold, red advertisements printed on the back of the printed messages. Image attachments would also be printed on high-quality glossy paper and be postmarked with their message, though MP3 and WAV files would not be printed.

Google TiSP (short for Toilet Internet Service Provider) was a fictitious free broadband service supposedly released by Google. This service would make use of a standard toilet and sewage lines to provide free Internet connectivity at a speed of 8 Mbit/s (2 Mbit/s Upload) (or up to 32 Mbit/s with a paid plan). A user drops a weighted end of a long, Google-supplied fiber-optic cable in their toilet and flushes it. Around 60 minutes later, the end would be recovered and connected to the Internet by a "Plumbing Hardware Dispatcher (PHD)." The user then connects their end to a Google-supplied wireless router and run the Google-supplied installation media on a Windows XP or Vista computer ("Mac and Linux support coming soon").

Alternatively, a user could request a professional installation, where Google would deploy nanobots through the plumbing to complete the process. The free service would be supported by "discreet DNA sequencing" of "personal bodily output" to display online ads that relate to culinary preferences and personal health. Google also references the Diet Coke and Mentos reaction in their FAQ, "If you're still experiencing problems, drop eight mints into the bowl and add a two-liter bottle of diet soda."

Orkut makes change

Orkut has been making several changes.It introduces the ability to add Html in your scraps. In addition to this it has made some minor changes too.

The log-in page has changed. It looks more cool. There is no longer the images of Orkuteers. It's the following message instead of the image In a white back round. Even the Log-in box has a change.

It has added a feature callled Mutual communities this is similar to Mutual friends. When ever you scan through any persons communities i.e by clicking view all .You get a extra tab called mutual communities.This shows all the communities taht you have in common.

Next change is your Edit profile page.Now it has 5 tabs "General" "Social" "Contact" "Professional" and "Personal.

Certain options that allow multiple choice are hid. You need to click on edit to choose/change your opinion/option.All details regarding your Id is in the Contact tab.

Even Settings page has gone under a similar change.Every thing is now availaible in tabs.

Even Your Scrapbook has a change. Instead of Scrap tip button you have a link with the same name.

This is what Orkut blog has to say on it's new feature. Now you can add html in your scrapbook. Orkut allows you to add images, flashes, animations and videos.This is great feature as it allows to cover boring scraps into colourful & wonderful means to communicate.

But there are somethings that you need to know

You can send html only to your friends.

Html cant be larger than 1024(max size of scraps).

You can add photos, albums, videos, flash embed, podcast/audio, animations.

Orkut accepts the following file formats for images: .jpeg, .gif, .png or .bmp

Video & photos from any video or photo site like You tube, Google Video etc is allowed.

Picasa, Flicker and other albums and slide can also be displayed.

If your html tag ,(a tag looks something like this < tag_name> eg:- <>) contains tags like "iframe", "table" and other tags related to these are not allowed.

To send any Rich text/HTML. just visit your site and get code. Most sites have option like "ADD T0 Your Blog/Site" clicking on this you will get the required code.Now copy the HTML code and use it in your scraps.

As far as images are concerned orkut has added a new option called "Add photo" below the scrapbox. This allows you to directly upload the photo or add the link of photo. This will be diaplyed as image.
